Margaret Wente is one of my favorite columnists. I really enjoyed this article about willpower. It is something I learned from my Father. He always knew how to have a good time, but he was also very disciplined about going to work, and being on time.
He believed very strongly in hard work, long hours, and “showing up”.
IPG Downtown Kingston has completed an office renovation and we invite all of our clients to come and view the new look.
Hello Everyone,
I would like to take a moment to reflect on 80 years of the Kizell family operating a business at 204 Princess Street.
On August 27, 1931 my grandparents, Sarah and Archie Kizell, opened a women’s clothing store called Doreta Apparel Shops at 204 Princess Street. They lived over the store on the second floor with their four children.
My Father, Ray Kizell, the second youngest child, eventually went into the business and expanded the size of the store. He also opened additional stores and branched out into real estate ownership over his 50 year career.
I worked with my Father in the stores growing up and after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Queen’s University in 1977, I entered the family business full time.
In 1985 I made the strategic decision to enter the financial planning industry. With my Father’s blessing, we wound up the retail stores. I purchased a Money Concepts franchise and launched my career as a financial planner at 204 Princess Street. In 2005 I joined the Independent Planning Group where I continue to grow my financial planning practice.
I am very excited that tomorrow, Saturday August 27th is the 80th year that the Kizell family has operated a business continuously at 204 Princess Street. My office is located on the second floor where my Grandparents had their apartment in 1931.
Though the product has changed from retail clothing to financial planning, the goals have stayed the same. We strive to provide a service that the public wants with integrity and commitment.
I am proud of my grandparents and parents professional, personal and volunteer lives that they enjoyed in Kingston. I look forward to continuing this family legacy with my wife Cheryl, with all of my clients, and with the very dedicated team that works with us for many years to come.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support.
