Statement of Standards for Professional Members

The Social Investment Organization has adopted a set of professional standards to encourage a more comprehensive approach to socially responsible investing by its professional members. The standards require professional members to:

1. Declare their support for the existing principles of the SIO in particular and SRI in general on

applying for or renewing professional membership.

2. Display their professional designations in all communications, adhere to the ethical codes of

conduct of their respective professional governing bodies and communicate such codes to existing and prospective clients and other interested parties

3. Endeavour to present and promote SIO and SRI principles and appropriate financial products to new and existing clients and also to promulgate these principles to all others

4. Encourage SIO membership amongst clients and other financial professionals

5. Avail themselves of opportunities for continuing education in the field of SRI when such opportunities present themselves.

The standards were developed by a professional standards committee of the Board after discussion at the 1999 Annual Meeting. The committee reported to the 2000 Annual Meeting

on Jan. 18, 2001, and the Board ratified the standards at its regular meeting in February 2001.
